Accurate Staffing was founded by CEO Catherine Wall. Catherine emigrated from Dublin, Ireland to the United States in 1982. She began her career in staffing working temporary assignments where she gained knowledge and valuable industry experience, forming Accurate Staffing Consultants with her husband, James in 1985. Investing almost every penny they had, Catherine and James set about building Accurate. They didn’t draw a salary and only took enough to cover their bills.
Getting Off The Ground
Securing funding for payroll was imperative and would be a huge hurdle to overcome. Catherine had been in the US for such a short time she hadn’t yet built a credit history. Undaunted, she applied to various banks for an SBA loan. These efforts failed, but she refused to quit. She eventually found a funding company willing to work with her, but they wanted to see prospect lists and sales projections for the next 12 months.
Earning Trust And Business
Finding prospects was one thing; asking for spend projections with a brand-new startup was another thing entirely. Confident and unafraid, Catherine shared her immigrant American story with prospects and asked for a chance to earn their business. Amazed at the positive response from major buyers such as Toys R Us, Winn Dixie, Ivey’s Distribution (now Dillard), she was convinced that the American dream was alive and well.
Putting In The Work
In the days before smartphones and laptops, Catherine went on sales calls armed with a beeper and plenty of quarters for the payphone. When she got requests for temps, she would rush back to the office to find the right candidates to fill. Her hard work soon paid off. Between April and December 1986, the company generated almost $1 million in sales.
Taking On Big Challenges (and winning!)
Their next achievement was winning a large project with Kellogg’s Snacks business. Together the team crafted their proposal, which Catherine flew to Battle Creek (without an appointment!) to present. Her presentation and determination convinced them to choose Accurate. In 2009 Accurate successfully relocated the project consisting of five manufacturing lines and more than 200 staff members to Augusta, Georgia without sacrificing safety and quality.
