Work Hard, Play Hard: How to Find Balance During The Holiday Season

Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, New Year’s… the holiday season (or season of giving as I like to call it) has us busy from beginning to end. With so much going on all around us and within us, it’s easy to lose track of ourselves, forget about the meaning of what we’re doing and neglect our personal health and well-being in the process. Don’t let that happen to you this holiday season!

Set Priorities

The holidays are a time of year when getting caught up in the hustle and bustle of the season can be easy. Work routines and habits can also quickly change during this time of year. It is important not to let your productivity slip and make sure you are able to find some balance for yourself.

One way you may be able to do this is by coming up with a plan for how you want your work day to go over the next few weeks. Try to prioritize tasks that need to be done and set reasonable deadlines for when you would like them completed. It’s also helpful to establish goals for the number of hours you would like to spend at work each day so that you know what kind of expectations you have. Additionally, it’s important not forget about taking care of yourself through these busy days. Schedule breaks into your calendar if possible or take short walks throughout the day so that you can stay energized and focused on accomplishing your goals!

Say No

It’s easy to get so caught up in the business of the season that we forget to enjoy ourselves. But it is important to remember that work/life balance is key and sometimes we need to say no when things are getting out of hand.

Delegate

The holiday season can be a stressful time for many people. It’s the time of year when family obligations and work deadlines collide. And what often ends up happening is that we end up working harder than usual and playing less hard than usual. But there are ways to make the most of this festive season – without sacrificing your work-life balance in the process. For starters, delegate tasks. There’s no shame in asking them to take on some of your responsibilities or a project you’re unsure how to handle. In fact, it will save you time and energy while they learn new skills.

Take Time For Yourself

The holidays are a time for family and friends. While this is great, it can be easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of it all. It’s important that you take some time for yourself during this season too. Take a few minutes before bed to soak in your bathtub or read an enjoyable book. Listen to calming music as you fall asleep at night or spend an evening at home doing something low-key like baking cookies with your kids. Doing so will help preserve your sanity while spending time with loved ones over the next few weeks!

Make A Plan

Maintaining a healthy work/life balance can be difficult during the holiday season. Remember, it’s important to take time for yourself and your loved ones.

Here are some tips that will help you stay sane this season:

-Organize your workload in advance so that you know what deadlines need attention when.

-Use time blocking on your calendar so that you know when to work and when to play.

-Block out your downtime for family dinners, movie nights, and video games.

-Avoid temptation by finding creative ways to avoid shopping malls.

It can be hard to find balance during the holiday season. But there are some things you can do. If you need a little bit more structure in your life, try creating a holiday schedule for yourself and sticking to it! Or maybe you’re the type of person who needs a little bit more flexibility in order to get everything done? Try prioritizing tasks and goals as best as possible so you can give yourself some time for fun too.
